Now that I am a little over three weeks into my recovery, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my experience with Dr. Hazem Alfie and the amazing and professional team at Delta Clinic. Having surgery is a significant decision, and from my very first consultation with Dr. Alfie, I felt comfortable and reassured. What stood out to me most was the time and attention he gave me before surgery. I had two consultations with him, and during both appointments he took the time to answer all of my questions, explain everything clearly, and discuss any concerns I had. I never felt rushed, and I never felt that any question was too small or unimportant. His calm approach, experience, and attention to detail gave me a great deal of confidence going into surgery. He made sure I understood what to expect and helped me feel comfortable with my decision every step of the way. I truly appreciate the care and attention he provided. I would also like to give special recognition to Rayan, who has been my main nurse throughout my recovery. Recovery can be an emotional journey, with lots of questions, worries, and moments when you need reassurance, and Rayan has been there through it all. She has followed my progress closely, answered countless questions, and guided me through each stage of recovery with patience and kindness. Knowing that someone genuinely cared about how I was doing and was always there to support me made a real difference to my recovery experience. I am incredibly grateful for all of her support and care. I would also like to thank Alex, who has been wonderful throughout this experience. Every interaction with her was positive, and she was always kind, supportive, and encouraging whenever I needed help or reassurance. Sushmita was equally lovely to deal with. She was always welcoming, helpful, and professional, and her warm attitude made every interaction a pleasant one. A special thank you as well to Hanan for reaching out after surgery to check on me. It was a thoughtful gesture that I genuinely appreciated. I am still recovering, but I already know that choosing Dr. Alfie and Delta Clinic was the right decision for me. Thank you to Dr. Alfie, Rayan, Alex, Sushmita, Hanan, and the entire team for the care, support, and kindness you have shown throughout this journey. It has meant more to me than I can express in a review. I would confidently recommend Dr. Alfie to anyone considering surgery, and I will definitely return to Delta Clinic in the future if I ever decide to have another procedure. Dr. Alfie would be my first choice without hesitation. Thank you so much for the amazing support and care🌷🌷Posted on Google![]()

i had a really good experience overall with delta clinics. from the start alex was really easy to talk to and didn’t make anything feel complicated, which helped because i was a bit unsure going into it. she always got back to me and kept things moving without any stress when i came into the clinic the reception team were polite and everything felt organised. on the day of surgery the nurses were actually really reassuring, they didn’t rush anything and made sure i was calm before going in which made a big difference dr alfie was professional and straight to the point, he explained what would actually work rather than just agreeing with everything. the results have come out really natural which is exactly what i wanted, nothing over the top if i had to say one thing, it would be that communication around one of my appointments could have been a bit clearer as i had to double check the time, and there was a bit of waiting when i arrived. not a big issue but worth mentioning overall though i’m really happy i went with them, the team were solid and the results speak for themselvesPosted on Google![]()

Significant weight loss reduces body volume, but skin that has been stretched over time does not always contract around the smaller body shape. Excess skin removal after weight loss addresses the loose folds and overhanging tissue that can remain across the abdomen, arms, thighs, back, buttocks and breasts.
At Delta Clinics, we assess the distribution of post-weight-loss excess skin across the body before recommending surgery. This allows us to identify which areas pose the greatest concern, select the appropriate procedures, and decide whether treatment should be combined or completed in carefully planned stages.
What Is Post Weight Loss Excess Skin?
Post-weight-loss excess skin is loose or hanging tissue that remains after a substantial reduction in body size. The skin stretches to accommodate increased body volume, but prolonged stretching can weaken the collagen and elastin fibres responsible for firmness and elasticity.
Some people develop mild creasing in one area, while others develop larger folds across several parts of the body. These folds can affect body contour, clothing fit and movement, while skin-to-skin contact can also contribute to rubbing, moisture, irritation and difficulty keeping the area dry.
What Causes Loose Skin After Weight Loss?
The amount of loose skin left after weight loss depends on how extensively the skin was stretched and how well it contracts as body volume reduces. Weight loss removes fat beneath the skin, but it does not directly restore the structure of skin that has lost elasticity.
Factors affecting post-weight-loss excess skin include:
- The amount of weight lost
- How long the skin remained stretched
- The speed and pattern of weight loss
- Age and natural skin elasticity
- Genetics and skin quality
- Pregnancy and previous changes in body shape
- Smoking and prolonged sun exposure
- Previous bariatric or abdominal surgery
- Repeated cycles of weight loss and weight gain
- The distribution of remaining fat beneath the skin
How We Assess Excess Skin
After Weight Loss
Post-weight-loss body contouring begins with an assessment of the entire affected area rather than focusing on a single fold of skin. We examine where the tissue begins and ends, whether laxity crosses into a neighbouring area and how removing skin from one region will affect the contours around it.
Your surgeon will also review your weight history, general health, nutrition, medications, smoking status and previous procedures. Surgery is planned once weight has stabilised, and any nutritional deficiencies have been addressed, as continued weight loss or poor healing capacity can affect wound healing and the final contour. Where several areas need treatment, we will explain which procedures can be combined safely and which are better completed in stages.
Why Choose Delta Clinics for Excess Skin Removal After Weight Loss?
Post-weight-loss surgery requires more than removing the maximum amount of skin from each area. The plan must consider how adjacent body regions connect, where scars can be placed, and how much surgery can be performed safely in a single stage.
Patients choose Delta Clinics for post-weight-loss body contouring because we provide:
Surgeons experienced in complex skin-removal and body-contouring procedures
Assessment of the abdomen, waist, back, arms, thighs, buttocks and breasts as connected areas
Access to standard, extended and fleur-de-lis tummy tuck techniques
Careful planning of combined procedures and staged surgery
Incision placement based on the location and extent of the loose skin
Clear explanations of scars, recovery and the limits of each procedure
Surgery within fully equipped clinical facilities
Structured wound care, follow-up and scar-management guidance
Honest advice when further weight stabilisation or medical optimisation is needed first
Excess Skin Removal After Weight Loss: Treatment Options
Excess skin removal after weight loss is planned around the affected area, the amount and direction of laxity, and how the surrounding body contours relate to one another. One procedure can address skin confined to a single area, while more extensive changes can require a combined or staged body-contouring plan.
Tummy Tuck Surgery
A tummy tuck removes loose abdominal skin, tightens the remaining tissue and repairs abdominal muscle separation where required. A standard tummy tuck concentrates on the front of the abdomen, an extended tummy tuck continues across the hips and flanks, and a fleur-de-lis tummy tuck removes skin vertically and horizontally when substantial laxity affects both the width and height of the abdomen.
Arm Lift Surgery
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, removes loose skin from the upper arms and tightens the underlying tissue. The incision length reflects how far the laxity extends, ranging from a shorter scar near the armpit to a longer incision along the inner or back of the upper arm for more extensive post-weight-loss skin.
Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift removes loose tissue from the upper legs and improves the transition between the thighs, groin and lower body. An inner thigh lift addresses laxity concentrated near the groin, while a vertical or more extensive lift is used when redundant skin continues further down the leg.
Back and Buttock Lift Surgery
A back lift removes folds across the upper, middle or lower back, with the incision planned around clothing lines where possible. A buttock lift addresses sagging skin and tissue across the buttocks without adding volume, restoring a firmer transition between the lower back, buttocks and thighs.
Breast Uplift Surgery
Weight loss can reduce breast volume and leave stretched skin, a lower nipple position, or an empty upper breast contour. A breast uplift removes excess skin, reshapes the existing breast tissue and raises the nipple to create a firmer, more supported breast contour.

Post Weight Loss Excess Skin FAQs
How long should I wait after weight loss before having skin removal surgery?
Your weight should be stable before excess skin removal is planned. Many surgeons look for at least six months of stability, although the appropriate interval depends on the amount lost, whether you had bariatric surgery, your nutrition and whether further weight change is expected.
Can loose skin tighten on its own without surgery?
Mild laxity can improve as the body settles after weight loss, particularly in younger skin with good elasticity. Established folds and substantial areas of hanging skin do not disappear through exercise, skincare or further fat loss because these approaches cannot remove redundant tissue.
Is excess skin removal after weight loss available on the NHS?
The NHS does not routinely fund post-weight-loss skin removal for cosmetic purposes. Local funding policies differ, and exceptional consideration can apply where excess skin causes documented functional problems, recurrent infections or other significant clinical concerns.
What is the difference between a body lift and a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck concentrates on the abdomen and can extend across the hips when a broader correction is required. A body lift is a more extensive term for surgery that addresses several connected areas around the torso, potentially including the abdomen, flanks, back, and buttocks.
Can several areas of excess skin be removed during one operation?
Selected procedures can be combined when the overall operating time, recovery demands and risk level remain appropriate. More extensive post-weight-loss treatment is frequently divided into stages so each area can heal before the next operation.
Does liposuction tighten loose skin after weight loss?
No. Liposuction removes fat and relies on the skin contracting around the new contour, so it cannot correct significant skin laxity. It can be combined with skin-removal surgery when localised fat also needs to be reduced.
What scars does post-weight-loss body contouring leave?
Every skin-removal procedure leaves a permanent scar because an incision is required to remove the excess tissue. Its position and length depend on the area treated and the amount of skin removed, with placement planned around natural folds and clothing lines where possible.
What is the typical recovery time after body contouring surgery?
Recovery depends on the procedure, the number of areas treated and whether operations are combined. Initial recovery generally takes several weeks, while swelling continues to settle and scars mature over many months.
Will loose skin return after surgery?
The skin removed during surgery does not grow back. Significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and natural ageing can stretch the remaining tissue and alter the result, which is why maintaining a stable weight is important before and after treatment.
Can I have excess skin removal after bariatric surgery?
Yes, body-contouring surgery can be planned after bariatric weight loss once your weight and nutritional health are stable. Blood tests or input from your bariatric or medical team can be required before surgery to check protein levels, iron, vitamins and other factors involved in healing.
