What is Breast Uplift Surgery?
Breast uplift, also known as boob lift, breast lift or mastopexy, is a surgery that aims to improve the shape and upper fullness of ladies’ breasts through lifting the breast mount up to the normal pleasant position. It involves removal of excess skin, lifting the breast tissues up followed by reshaping the breasts to become more round, firmer, and perky. Breast uplift or mastopexy surgery also involves moving the nipple and areola up to sit at the centre of the new breast. If the areola is large, it could be reduced at the same time of the surgery.
Breast uplift improves body figure, balances the waist to bust ratio and helps relief the pain often encountered by the saggy breasts leads to neck pain, muscle strain and bra lines on the shoulders. Some patients may suffer with infections and skin conditions underneath their saggy breasts and hence the surgery will help minimise that risk.
It is one of the most popular surgeries performed by plastic and breast surgeons in the UK and internationally.
Why Should Patients Consider Breast Uplift or Mastopexy Surgery?
Breast uplift surgery has proven to help with the following:
- Improves back and neck pain.
- Treats deep bra lines on the shoulders.
- Enhances patient confidence and ability to wear suitable desired clothes and bikinis.
- Regains patient confidence to engage in social and sports events like swimming, running etc.
Do I Need to Combine Breast Uplift With Breast Reduction or Enlargement Surgery?
Breast uplift or mastopexy surgery would normally involve a minor degree of reduction due to the excision of the excess stretched skin. Most of the patients would lose less than half a cup after the surgery.
If the patient is concerned about losing any volume or wishes to enhance their breast volume at the same time, some patients may be able to combine the uplift with breast implant insertion to achieve more fullness and enhance their breast size.
It is important for the patient to discuss their desire with their surgeons and go through sizing session where they can try few different sizers in front of a mirror to help them decide on the size of breast implant to use to achieve their desired look and cup.
Do I Need Drains After Breast Uplift Surgery?
Most patients do not need drain inserted during their breast uplift surgery. At Delta Clinics, our surgeon will discuss with the patients the possibilities of using a drain during surgery. Drains help suck out any fluid or blood in the first few hours after surgery. This helps with less bruises, swelling and early recovery.
How Long Is the Breast Uplift or Mastopexy Surgery?
Breast uplift surgery takes 2- 3 hours.
